How I Caught the Triathlon Bug
How I caught the triathlon bug: Well it definitely wasn’t right away that I became hooked. After hitting 205 on the scale after my son was born in 2006, I needed to find something other than swimming (too boring!) to get back into shape. So in 2007, I signed up for a Fall triathlon with my sister. That same week an oil tanker crashed in the Bay and thus the swim portion was canceled. So it became a duathlon and some guy cut me off not even 2 miles into the ride. I left that race in an Ambulance with wife and two young kids following behind. Not too thrilled about this triathlon thing!
Not sure if this was the right sport for me – I decided to do the famous Wildflower triathlon in 2008. It was the hardest thing I ever did – I got 7th place in my AG, passed by many on the bike… and then was determined to stopped getting passed so much. Then I bought a tri bike and got some real cycling shoes… 6 years later I am about compete in my 5th Ironman. Have loved the training, racing and all of the people I have met doing this sport. Officially hooked.
