How I Caught the Triathlon Bug
I played soccer and tennis in high school but not seriously. I did a cross country bike trip as part of a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser the summer after college but then abandoned the bike while I spent two years working as a consultant in Chicago after graduation. I went to medical school and made great lifelong friends through exercise. We played rec league soccer, ran laps of the harbor, and came to love riding our bikes in the “horse country” north of Baltimore. Fourth year of medical school is actually pretty relaxed so three of us did IMTX together around the time of graduation. Strange coincidence, I edged out Clay Emge in a footrace at the finish and snagged a roll-down slot for Kona. That was my triathlon brush with fame. He’s obviously gone on to much greater things!
