How I Caught the Triathlon Bug
After walking away from a long and successful career in corporate basketball leagues, I was looking for a new challenge. My twin brother decided to enter a few triathlons one summer and for the sole purpose to beat him I decided to enter a sprint. I figured since I ran XC in college, how hard can this be when you add a little swimming and biking to the mix. After finishing with the slowest swim in the race (out of 220 people) and losing to my brother and a HS friend who has never been an endurance athlete… I was humbled. I wish I can say I was automatically hooked and loved the sport. If anything I was annoyed to be beaten so badly and the drive to get better became my focus. The following years I have slowly progressed and as I continue to improve, my love for the sport has grown as well. If anything, what triathlons taught me is if you work hard enough “anything is possible”©.
