How I Caught the Triathlon Bug

 I competed as a Division 1 “Swiver” (swimmer and diver) but wanted nothing to do with water or chlorine post-graduation. Not long after, I lost some important people in my life and thought a new athletic pursuit could be of benefit. A mentor of mine signed up for Ironman Florida and challenged me to go for it. Without a bike or “true” triathlon race under my belt, I knew the Ironman prep would be a formidable undertaking. In the 11 month leadup to the Ironman, I made countless rookie mistakes (including racing with my kit on backwards) but somehow continued improving beyond my expectations. More importantly, I was meeting inspiring age group athletes in my community and across the country that brought out the best in me, on and off the race course. After the Ironman, I have continued to learn, uncover new challenges and meet inspiring people. My aversion to chlorine still remains strong…
