How I Caught the Triathlon Bug
I grew up playing baseball and soccer with no endurance background. I realized I should switch gears in high school when my fastball wasn’t cracking 88 but I could outrun everybody on my soccer team. I continued baseball through my 4 years at UC Davis but my focus was on triathlon. I finished my first races in the back of the pack, but the energy and camaraderie of racing had me hooked.
Triathlon appealed to me because what you put in you get out. Team sports (particularly baseball) are rollercoaster rides, and I wanted to focus on myself. I’m back at school pursuing a masters in exercise physiology at San Diego State, and I’m racing for my school as well as EMJ this year. Looking forward to a lot of short-course collegiate racing this Spring.
